About me
My name is Callie Server
As a Technical Director, I am passionate about the intersection of art and engineering. With backgrounds in both Mechanical Engineering and Theatrical Design and Technology, I approach every production as a creative problem-solver, someone who brings precision, structure, and innovation to the storytelling process. My goal is to bring artistic vision to life through designs that are accurate, efficient, and structurally sound.
Working in the scene shop at Fisher Theatre and as a stagehand at Cy Stephens has deepened my respect for collaboration and craftsmanship. I’ve learned that technical direction is as much about people as it is about plans. Clear communication, teamwork, and adaptability are what make complex builds and tight deadlines possible. Whether leading a crew through a scenic build or troubleshooting a set change mid-tech, I strive to foster an environment where creativity and precision coexist seamlessly.
I view theatre as a living system, much like an engineered machine, where each component must balance aesthetics, function, and reliability. My engineering background enables me to approach design challenges with a logical and analytical mindset. At the same time, my theatre experience reminds me that every little element serves a purpose within a story. I take pride in creating spaces where artistry and technical excellence thrive, ensuring that what the audience sees feels effortless, even when it takes hundreds of hours to achieve.
Ultimately, my artistry lies in making things work, transforming imagination into something real, tangible, and safe enough for others to create within. Technical direction is the art that transforms a creative vision into a functional reality.
